Discover Nature
Step into an amazing natural world at Studfold Adventure Trail in the Yorkshire Dales. Set in the Nidderdale National Landscape (the new name for an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty), you’ll discover so much of what nature has to offer, at every turn.
Come for a ramble around beautiful Studfold’s Trail and straight away you’ll experience the countryside in all its glory. Our wildflower meadow, trees and ancient woodland are home to so many minibeasts, mammals and birds, and expertly looked after to keep our wildlife happy and you to enjoy. There are lots of interactive activities and surprising nature facts for you to learn along the way too.
From the meadow, you are likely to see, as well as lots and lots of rabbits, many types of birds, including tree creepers, coal tits, pheasants and, if you're very lucky, a greater spotted woodpecker! Inside our bird hide you'll find lots of tips for effective bird watching, and a blackboard and drawing pad to share your sightings with fellow twitchers.
Nature is so much about the sensory experience, so we have magnifying points, listening points and smelly-feely-boxes to delight and challenge you. Families can also pick up age-related cluesheets for the trail, and complete them for a surprise back at Reception!
Our friendly Nidderdale Way Cafe is all part of the sensory experience too! Tasty homemade treats and cuppas can be enjoyed, sat inside or out on our benches, where you can continue taking in the views.
And don’t forget to say hello to our giant nature creatures, our 16ft fox, 20ft hedgehog and spider’s web. You really can’t miss them! They’re all part of the fun, and our celebration of the natural world all around us at Studfold.
